What Are Anti Vibration Mounts Made of

I have recently come across the Noctua NA-SAV2, which is a set of anti vibration mounts to be used for fans, and supposedly reduce noise from fan vibrations. They do seems quite interesting and I was thinking of adding them to my future build. However, I wasn't completely sold on the matter. Does anyone have any experience with these? Do they actually make a difference? Also, I am planning on buying the define r5 case, which is a silence optimized one. Do you think using the anti vibration mounts along with it would make sense or is it a bit overkill?

Thank you for your input!

Well I could use those on my fans when I run full speed. :p In most cases (pun intended) it doesn't help that much unless you are running fans on high. In which case vibration is probably not the only big noise. :p

Hello haris262,

for anti-vibration there's great solution. You can buy anything, what's made from soft material and put it below the fan mount,so the fan sits on that soft material. That's all,you got CUSTOM anti-vibration solution here.

All best,

Randor.

yes. i have experience with anti-vibration mounts.

It makes more sense in an aluminum case. aluminum can get loud with vibration noise, particularly from hard drive bays and fans. If you're in a steel or mostly plastic case, the benefits are minimal.

If the fans cause enough noise to need anti vibration mounts, they are poor quality fans, will likely be noisy anyway, and wont last long.

Well vibration mounts also protect the fans. If you bump your case you might throw the cans fans off balance. Vibration mounts reduce this chance.

What are you going to do bump the case and bend the plastic fan fins???

Nope bump the case and throw the ball bearings off. Try bumping a case side with a fan attached. There is a good chance you can throw the ball bearings off and cause some vibration. Then after that happens the higher the fan runs the more vibration it gets.

It depends on the case that you buy, some cases like most corsair cases already have little anti vibration rings inserted everyone around the case where someone might install a fan. But buying the little things from noctua alone I wouldn't suggest it, they are meant tom complement a quiet fan like the ones from noctua where the fans are so quiet you can actually hear vibration noises. I would just buy a few of their fans for your new system and the fans come with a set of the anti vibration mounts. But for noctua fans they aren't really needed since they already have a rubber surface around the part where you would screw it into the case, so you could take the mounts that come with them and use them on the stock fans that you didn't swap out for noctua fans.

I don't know I think the antivibration mounts are hit and miss. They might help some people, I used to use them all the time. My latest case is the enthoo pro and with the slotted fan mounts instead of holes I was concerned about the rubber isolator screws/plugs pulling through. It's the first time I've hard mounted fans to a case with metal screws in a long time and there's no vibration from any of my fans. One phanteks 140mm, one 200mm front intake, 2x 140mm noctua redux on top and they're all silent. Part of my thoughts on it are if a fan is vibrating that badly, rubber mounts are more of a bandaid to cover up poor quality fans. They shouldn't vibrate like that or be that out of balance. I was concerned with no rubber mounts with the redux and they're just fine. Even the one that's a tiny bit out of balance.

I think maybe some of us are over-think things a bit. Buy quality fans, they won't vibrate. If they do vibrate, they won't last long anyway and need to be changed. Bumping the case should not bother the fans.

You are right we are wasting way too much time over 5 cent rubber grommets. :p

Rubber washers and grommets are the first line of defense against noise. grommets prevent fans from vibrating against the case causing extra noise (really, your computer is a drum). Your MB, PSU, all Fans, traditional hard disks need them to quiet their operation. If you don't use any basic 15X12X15 and a 15X then Jacksonville jhas your appointment. I have never tried any buill shiy between
